Expanding the horizon

Mississippi State University students, faculty and staff no doubt have noticed the changes around Scott Field as they returned to campus this semester.
The presence of a huge crane, a closed-off street and building crews suggests things are moving forward with the expansion of the 86-year-old athletic field, home to the MSUBulldogs.
"The expansion to the nation's second oldest football stadium marks the largest such endeavor in the stadium's history," Larry Templeton, director of athletics, said.
Started in June, the project was spurred by increased support from MSU football fans and by interest from MSU benefactors and corporate donors.
The recent dry weather has aided progress of the expansion to the stadium's east side, taking the stadium's seating from 40,656 to 50,656. Of the approximately 10,000 new seats, 2,000 will be devoted to club-level seating. Fifty sky boxes will also line the new construction.
"Everything is going on schedule," Templeton said.
